General Information about Kenya

Situated in Africa, Kenya has the distinction of lying on the earth’s equator. It lies in Eastern Africa, bordered by Ethiopia to the north, South Sudan to the northwest, Somalia to the north-east, Uganda to the west, and Tanzania to the south, with its coastline flanked by the Indian Ocean. Its largest city is the capital city of Nairobi. Kenya provides a diverse ecological mix from the great rift valley to mountain highlands to the Savannah grasslands to a prolific range of wild animals.

Maasai Mara is one of the world’s most magnificent game reserves while also being a wildlife habitat. The park is famous for the great migration when wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelle, and zebra travel to and fro the Serengeti National Park, during the months from July to October and the lion, cheetah, and leopard in the months from December to February. Samburu also houses some rare animals that you must not miss.

Kenya is the destination for you if you seek an adventure that is soaked in ancient colorful culture and peppered with rare natural sights. Famed as the world center for animal safaris and active adventure holidays, Kenya is an absolute must-visit for the wildlife enthusiast.

ITINERARY

DAY 01: NAIROBI – ABERDARE COUNTRY CLUB

On arrival transfer to the Somak Safari Lounge, where you can freshen up and store any additional luggage before departing for the Aberdares Country Club (180 km – approximately 4 hours). Arrive in time for lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing, or on a nature walk with the resident naturalist (weather permitting). Overnight: Aberdare Country Club. (Meals included: Lunch and Dinner)

DAY 02: ABERDARE COUNTRY CLUB – SAMBURU

Drive north across the equator to the Samburu National Reserve (190 km – approximately 4 hours). Lunch before a late afternoon game drive. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

DAY 03: SAMBURU

Morning and late afternoon game drives in this open savannah which is traversed by the Ewaso Nyiro River. The river is populated by hippos and crocodiles, whilst the park is home to a host of animals including several species which are rarely seen in numbers elsewhere, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffes and long- necked gerenuks. Overnight: Ashnil Samburu Camp. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

DAY 04: SAMBURU – MT. KENYA

Drive to your lodge in time for lunch (240 km – approximately 4 hours). Spend the afternoon viewing game from the lodge, or join a nature walk led by a local guide (payable locally and weather permitting). Overnight: Serena Mountain Lodge. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

DAY 05: MT. KENYA – LAKE NAIVASHA

After breakfast, descend into the Great Rift Valley and continue to Lake Nakuru Lodge (240 km – approximately 4 hours). Lunch. Afternoon game drive in the national park. Drive to Lake Naivasha (80 km – approximately 1 hour). Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

DAY 06: LAKE NAIVASHA – MAASAI MARA

Optional boat trip on Lake Naivasha (payable locally). Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve (320 km – approximately 5.5 hours). Arrive in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

DAY 07: MAASAI MARA

Enjoy an early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. Alternatively, take an early morning balloon flight over the Mara followed by a ‘bubbly’ bush breakfast (optional extra). After lunch, relax before a late afternoon game drive. Overnight: Ashnil Mara Camp. (Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

DAY 8: EXTENSION OR HOME

Return to Nairobi by road (325km – approximately 6 hours), or fly from the Mara to Nairobi: morning flight (prices on request). Light lunch/refreshments will be served at the Somak Safari lounge before final transfer to the airport for your outbound international flight or proceed with own chosen extension (Meals included: Breakfast)
